About Be Real with UF & Shands Eating Disorder Recovery Center

Our Brand Promise: "Engage college women at the University of Florida and inspire them to connect with each other to make eating disorders socially unacceptable." The idea for a eating disorder organization on campus began with a school project as Anna Daggs witnessed her sorority sisters and friends on campus obsess about weight and image. She recognized way social media’s such as Twitter and FaceBook helped produce the social norm that eating disorders are okay. A few shocking comments she would hear throughout the day or read on websites included: “Water, its what’s for dinner…TSM.” (total sorority move) “Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels, I’ll dig into my arm before I dig into the Christmas cookies…SGP” (sorority girl problems) Together with a sister, Nicole McManus, they created a campaign plan aimed at combating this image the people around them were accepting of. Partnering with Shands at UF Eating Disorder Recovery Program the campaign is set to launch this fall semester. We invite all those who wish to support our brand promise to join us in our efforts! We have several events approaching and we are currently accepting new members. Please go to www.berealuf.com for more information.
